After the first steps were taken in the 70s, a large international mobilisation was organised at the Rio Earth Summit (1992), and the next milestone is the holding of the Copenhagen Summit (7th-18th of December 2009) devoted to climate change. Hence, the need to assess these environmental challenges and think about the role that public policies can play in bringing them under control. The seminar will look at the interactions between globalization and the environment, combining several approaches. Firstly, a global assessment of the impact of the growth models on the environment will be presented and then the various possible methods of cooperation to hold back climate change discussed. Reference will also be made to the recurrent debate on the possible implementation of a "green protectionism" and the emerging question of climate refugees will also be raised.
